Description
Engraved silver and blue enamelled 4-piece necessaire, Drizzeling or Parfilage set.
Metallic threads were easily recycled when fashions or fortunes changed.
Women removed threads from a garment and sold them or the threads were melted down.
Unpicking metallic filaments became a fashion hobby. Parfilage started in France and the hobby spread to England where it was called drizzling. Women armed themselves with small, elaborately decorated tool kits such as this example.
